지식사회학의 관점에서 바라본 주희 격물론
본 논문은 지식사회학의 이론에 기반하여 주희 철학의 특징을 탐구하였다. 지식사회학 은 지식과 사회구조와의 관계성에 주목한다. 그것은 특히 사회구성원들이 가지는 믿음 이 그 사회를 실재 로서 구성하고 존립하게 하는 필수적 전제이며, 지식 이 그 믿음을 정당화 하는 근거라는데 초점을 둔다. 주자학이 일반적인 사회구조와 윤리적 관계에 밀접하게 관 련되는 만큼 이러한 관점으로 주희가 수립한 이론 체계를 분석함으로써 유용한 통찰을 얻 을 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라, 이러한 관점은 기존 사회질서의 고수나 혁신과 같은 양 극단 사 이에서 주희 철학에 내재된 주체성의 의미를 구체적으로 포착할 수 있게 도와준다. 이에 대해서는 그의 사회적 정체성에서 중요한 부분을 차지하는 사대부의 관점에서 그의 이론 체계가 가질 수 있는 의미에 주목함으로써 논의되었다. 특히 격물론(格物論)에 주희의 문 제의식이 집약되어 있다고 보고 여기에 초점을 두었다. 지식사회학은 인공물인 사회적 구성물들이 어떻게 자연적인 실재로 받아들여질 수 있 는지에 대한 설명을 제공한다. 기본적으로 우리가 공유하는 일상의 세계 자체가 이런 방식 으로 구성된 실재이다. 주희의 철학은 이러한 일상적 실재에 그 정당화의 토대를 두는 동시 에 그러한 실재를 정당화하는 방식으로도 기능한다. 이러한 특징은 그의 철학에서 일상적 인 도덕규범을 우주론적인 체계로 종합하는 형태로 표현되고 있다. 하지만 그의 철학이 단 지 일상적 실재를 정당화하는 의미로만 국한되는 것은 아니다. 그의 철학은 일상적 실재에 토대를 두면서도, 그 토대 위에서 사대부의 고유한 지위와 정체성을 정초하고 있다. 이것은 부분적으로라도 그 일상적 실재 자체를 능동적으로 변혁할 수 있다는 의미를 포함한다.
Zhu Xi s Theory of investigation of things(格物) from The Perspective of Sociology of Knowledge
This paper try to find some features of Zhu Xi s philosophy based on sociology of knowledge. The sociology of knowledge pays attention to relation between knowledge and social structure. Particularly, it focused on that beliefs of the members of the society is a necessary condition to construct and maintain the society as a reality, and knowledge is the ground to justify the belief that the society is real. We can gain useful insight by analyzing with the view of sociology of knowledge, for Neo-Confucianism is closely related with social structure and ethical relationship in the society. Furthermore, this view can be useful to grasp the meaning of practical agent in Zhu Xi s philosophy in the historical context. This paper try to grasp the meaning by to attention to the standpoint of Zhu Xi as Sadaeboo(士大夫). This analysis focuses especially on Zhu Xi s theory of investigation of things(格物) , because it seems that Zhu Xi s philosophical problems are concentrated this theory. Sociology of knowledge provide an explanation of how artificial social components can be accepted as natural realities . In fact, this ordinary world in which we live is itself such a constructed reality. This ordinary reality is the strongest reality, so the reality does not require further justification. Zhu Xi s philosophy is not only anchored in the ordinary reality, but, at the same time, justify it. This feature of his philosophy is expressed in the way that all ordinary practical norms are synthesised in united cosmological system. But, His philosophy is not only justify the ordinary reality. He also establishes the status and identity of Sadaeboo(士大夫). This identity involves the right to transform the ordinary reality, even in part.
