레비나스와 정치적인 것(1) - 레비나스에서 국가의 문제, 국가 안에서 국가를 넘어
이번 논문은 ‘레비나스와 정치적인 것’이란 주제 하에서 이뤄지는 첫 번째 연구로서, 레비나 스에서 국가의 문제를 검토하는 데 그 목적이 있다. 알다시피 레비나스가 전체성과 무한과 존재와 달리 또는 존재성을 넘어에서 강조한 것은 책임의 직접성, 윤리적 관계의 근접성이며, 그럼으로써 그가 넘어서고자 한 것은 동일성과 전체성의 지배다. 레비나스가 이해관계와 관련한 힘들의 관계를 조절하는 정치 및 그 구체적 형태로서의 국가를 문제 삼으며 그 부정적 측면이나 한계를 지속적으로 환기한 것도 이에 값한다고 할 수 있다. 그렇다고 해서 레비나스가 정치를 불필요한 것으로 간주했다고 평가하는 것은, 나아가 그를 반정치적인 사상가로 낙인찍는 것은 명백한 잘못이다. 레비나스는 정치의 영향력과 중요성을 결코 간과하지 않는다. 그가 제삼자(le tiers)의 문제를 거론한 것도 이와 무관치 않다. 레비나스에서 윤리는 정치와 이중의 관계를 맺 는다. 윤리는 정치가 기반해야 할 토대이자, 언제나 정치를 문제시할 수 있다. 윤리는 정치와의 관계 속에 끼어드는 힘을 가지고 있다. 레비나스에서 평화는 국가 안에서는 불가능하다. 평화의 관계는 국가 너머에서 가능하다. 그렇다고 이 국가 너머가 국가에 대한 부정으로 귀착하는 것은 아니다. 우리는 ‘국가 안에서 국가를 넘어’라는 레비나스의 공식과 자유주의적 현대 사회에 대한 그의 진단을 통해, 레비나스에서 국가가 어떻게 사유될 수 있는지를, 또 왜 레비나스적 국가가 자유주의 국가로 한정될 수 없고 또 한정되어서는 안 되는지를 확인할 수 있을 것이다. 책임의 복잡성 때문에, 타자들 사이의 관계 문제 때문에 요구되는 레비나스적 국가는 자신의 중심에 타 자, 그러니까 ‘과부, 고아, 이방인’으로 대변되는 사회적 약자에 대한 책임을, 그런 한에서 배제되 고 권리를 박탈당한 사람들을 놓게 된다.
Levinas and the Political(1) - The Problem of the State in Emmanuel Levinas, beyond the State in the State
This thesis is the first attempt under the subject of ‘Levinas and the Political’. The aim is to examine the problem of the state in Emmanuel Levinas. Levinas focuses on the immediacy of a responsibility. In doing so, He tries to overcome the domination of a identity and totality. However he does not deny the influence and importance of politics. He tries to think the politics in the horizon of Ethics. Concretely, from ethics of the encounter with the Other and of the face-to-face, he makes effort to highlight the reason for being of state and its meaning that a established politics forgot. In Levinas, ethics mixes in politics in two ways. Ethics is the foundation of politics and makes an issue of politics. Levinas thinks that peace is impossible in the state. The relation of peace is possible in ethics. But going beyond the state is not a negation of politics. We will identify how a state in Levinas will be thought, why Levinas’s state will be not limited to liberal state through analyzing the formulation of ‘beyond the state in the state’ and discussing the critic of modern society and liberalism.
