칸트 덕윤리의 연원에 대한 고찰
본 논문은 칸트 도덕철학의 최후 저술인 『도덕형이상학-덕론의 형이상학적 기초원리』(=『덕론』)의 연원을 체계적으로 추적한 시도이다. 이러한 시도는 칸트 도덕철학에서 『덕론』의 실질적 역할을 밝혀 형식주의 비판에 대응하기 위함이다. 그동안 제기된 칸트 도덕철학에 대한 많은 비판 중에서 형식주의에 대한 비판은 관점을 달리하며 다양하게 전개되었다. 현대에 이르러 영미권을 중심으로 현대 덕윤리가 부상하면서 행위자 부재를 문제 삼는 형식주의 비판이 제기되었다. 그러나 칸트의 『덕론』은 형식뿐만 아니라 도덕적 행위자와 행위의 목적과 같은 실질이 중심적으로 다뤄지고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 『덕론』이 비판기의 저술보다 부차적으로 다뤄지는 것은 대부분의 칸트 연구자들이 비판기를 중심으로 연구했기 때문이다. 본 논문은 이러한 연구 방식에서 탈피하여 『덕론』이 비판기 이전부터 기획되어 비판기를 관통하여 완성된 체계임을 보인다. 이를 통해 칸트 도덕철학의 외연을 넓게 파악함으로써 소모적 형식주의 비판을 넘어 칸트가 의도한 도덕철학의 체계를 볼 수 있는 가능성을 열어준다는 점에서 의의가 있다.
Study on the Origins of Kant’s Virtue Theory
This thesis is an attempt to systematically trace the origins of "The Metaphysics of Morals”, especially focused on the part 2 “Metaphysical first principles of the doctrine of virtue”, the last work of his practical philosophy. By revealing the roles of “virtue” in Kant’s moral philosophy, this study also tries to refute the criticisms on his moral philosophy as a “formalism”. Defining his practical philosophy as the “formalism” has been developed in various ways among his criticisms. Contemporarily, with the emergence of virtue ethics among English-speaking philosophers, the question on the absence of actors in his moral philosophy had been raised. However, “virtue” in Kantian philosophy is not a mere form, but involves substantial means, such as a moral agent and a purpose of an act, as central concepts. Nevertheless, the Kantian notion of virtue has been dealt as a secondary notion by many Kantian researchers because they have focused on the critique period rather than the post-critique period. This research tries to show that Kant plans the notion of virtue in his practical philosophy before the critique period and completes it after the period. This is significant because it extends the limitation of the system of Kantian practical philosophy beyond the formalism.
