떼이야르 드 샤르뎅의 ‘과학과 종교의 화해’에 관한 철학적 비전
과학자이자 신학자이며 또한 철학자인 떼이야르 드 샤르뎅은 진화론의 과학적 진리와 이와 대립하는 종교적인 진리 사이에서 이 둘을 조화롭게 종합하고자 하였다. 이 과정에서 그는 어느 하나를 진리로 선택하거나 하나의 진리를 다른 하나에 흡수하는 방식이 아닌, 다름과 차이가 보다 분명하게 부각되지만 또한 서로 조화롭고 일치를 이루는 새로운 통일성을 창조하고자 하였다. 이러한 종합을 가능하게 하는 그의 사유는 일종의 균형 잡힌 형이상학적인 시각이다. 떼이야르는 진화의 현상을 다만 현상적으로 고찰하지 않고 생명의 도약을 가능하게 하는 ‘보이지 않는 힘’ 혹은 ‘초-자연적인 힘’의 존재를 통찰하고 있는데, 이러한 통찰은 전혀 계시에 근거한 것이 아니라, 진화의 법칙 그 자체에 대한 필연적인 추론을 통해서 이루어지고 있다. 따라서 진화 현상과 종교적 진리를 다루고 있는 그의 방법론은 매우 철학적이다. 새로운 종합안에서 물질과 정신, 속(俗)과 신성(神性)의 대립이 하나의 중심에 수렴되고 일치를 이루게 된다는 데서 우리는 ‘과학과 종교의 진정한 화해’에 대한 가능성을 발견할 수 있다. 우리는 떼이야르의 이러한 시도 자체를 비판할 수는 없을 것이다. 왜냐하면 이는 한 개인의 내밀한 자기 실존의 진실에 대한 고백과 같은 것이기 때문이다. 떼이야르가 가진 개인적인 과업은 현대인에게 가장 진지하고 흥미로운 철학의 한 과제이며, 그의 방법론은 진정한 철학적 탐구의 한 방법임이 분명하다.
The Philosophical Vision of a Reconciliation of Religion and Science in Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, a scientist, theologian, and philosopher, tried to synthesize the of confrontation truth between the scientific truth of evolution and religious truth. In the process, he did not choose the way to the truth, or select one that absorbs the truth of one into other, but to create a new unity forming a harmonious match with each other in which differences and distinction emerged more clearly. He used a kind of balanced metaphysical gaze to make this synthesize possible. His insights into the existence of the 'invisible force' or 'supernatural power' that enables a leap in life is not at all based on revelation but has been made through speculation about the law of evolution itself. Therefore, his methodology in dealing with the phenomenon of evolution and religious truth is very philosophical. Conflict between the new scientific information and spiritual, belief converge on one central point. We find here the possibility for a true reconciliation of science and religion. We will not be able to criticize the attempt itself. because it is a confession of the truth of his intimate and private existence. The task which Teilhard de chardin had as a personal is one of the most serious and interesting challenges to modern philosophy, and his methodology is clearly the way of true philosophical inquiry.
