예수, 급진적 휴머니스트
이 글은 영국의 종교 철학자 돈 큐핏의『예수와 철학』(Don Cupitt, Jesus and Philosophy, SCM Press, 2009)에 대한 서평으로 쓴 것이다. 이 책은 18개의 에세이로 구성되어 있다. 이 책 은 예수의 도덕성에 대해 매우 창의적이고 독보적이며 특색 있는 해석을 제시한다. 이 책의 서 평을 위한 서술 방법은 기존의 유형과는 다르게 비판적 사고의 9가지 성찰에 따라 수행된다. 비 판적 사고의 9가지 성찰을 소개한 후 이를 서평 도서에 적용함으로써 본 서평논문을 구성하고자 한다. 비판적 사고의 성찰은 다음과 같은 범주로 진행된다. ①해명하기 ②해방하기 ③자기각성 ④전달하기 ⑤탐색하기 ⑥변화하기 ⑦의미부여 ⑧포치하기 ⑨기쁨주기 예수의 윤리 사상의 핵심 요체는 다음과 같이 정리된다. 큐핏의 탁월한 통찰은 예수가 도덕 성의 원천을 우주의 도덕적 질서나 신의 도덕적 명령에서 찾지 않고 사랑의 개념에서 구한 것으 로 해석했다는 것이다. 사랑의 느낌이 도덕성의 기초이다. 이러한 예수의 윤리는 급진 휴머니즘 으로 나타난다. 예수는 현존하는 실재를 고정 불변하고 고칠 수 없는 것으로 보지 않았으며 현 실을 하나님의 통치 아래 가져오고자 했다. 예수는 우리가 도덕적 열정과 투명성을 가지고 현실 세계를 더 나은 세계로 바꾸기로 한다면 우리는 그러한 세계에 있게 될 것이라고 믿었다. 예수 는 우리에게 넘치는 사랑의 정서와 마음으로 세속을 초월하라고 명령한다. 이 초월은 이 세상에 서 자유롭게 사랑을 주고받고 사랑에 따라 사는 것을 방해하는 모든 제약 요소들을 자각적으로 인식하고 극복하는 것을 의미한다. 예수의 세속적 초월이야말로 예수의 유토피아적 급진 휴머니 즘 윤리의 정식화이다.
Jesus as a Radical Humanist
This thesis is written as a review article. we review Don Cupitt’s Jesus and Philosophy (SCM Press, 2009) under the title of nine topics. This book consists of eighteen essays. The writer interprets Jesus’ morality very originally and exceptionally. It is very exciting and interesting. In this book review, I attempt to analyze Jesus’ ethical theory according to Cupitt. This work is proceeded as nine steps. I call this process critical reflection. Such a reflection is classified as nine kinds of consideration. These are to ①elucidate ②disengage ③self-awaken ④deliver ⑤search ⑥ change ⑦signify ⑧constellate ⑨enjoy. By using this methodology, I show you through Cupitt’ interpretation that the core message of Jesus’ ethical theory consists in a secular transcendence. A secular transcendence means to realize and shake off with self-awareness every obstruction and constraint which disables us to love and be loved freely, and to live by love in this world.
